Routine deworming during antenatal care decreases risk of neonatal mortality and low birthweight: A retrospective cohort of survey data

چکیده
Background Soil transmitted helminths (STH) are a common infection among pregnant women in areas with poor access to sanitation. Deworming medications cheap and safe; however, the health benefit of deworming during pregnancy is not clear. Methods / Principal findings We created retrospective cohort more than 800,000 births from 95 Demographic Health Survey datasets estimate impact medicine routine antenatal care (ANC) on neonatal mortality low birthweight. first matched probability receiving ANC. then modeled birth outcomes group as random intercept effect after accounting for various risk factors. also tested modification soil helminth prevalence Receipt medication ANC was associated 14% reduction (95% confidence interval = 10–17%, n 797,772 births), no difference between high transmission countries. In countries, we found an 11% odds weight 8–13%) medicine, 2% birthweight 0–5%). Conclusions Significance These results suggest substantial that may be even greater countries STH transmission.

Patterns of routine antenatal care for low-risk pregnancy.
BACKGROUND It has been suggested that reduced antenatal care packages or prenatal care managed by providers other than obstetricians for low risk women can be as effective as standard models of antenatal care. OBJECTIVES The objective of this review was to assess the effects of antenatal care programmes for low-risk women. SEARCH STRATEGY We searched the Cochrane Pregnancy and Childbirth Gr...
متن کاملEffectiveness of antenatal care services in reducing neonatal mortality in Kenya: analysis of national survey data
BACKGROUND Although global neonatal mortality declined by about 40 percent from 1990 to 2013, it still accounted for about 2.6 million deaths globally and constituted 42 percent of global under-five deaths. Most of these deaths occur in developing countries. Antenatal care (ANC) is a globally recommended strategy used to prevent neonatal deaths. In Kenya, over 90 percent of pregnant women atten...
متن کاملMaternal smoking and low birthweight: implications for antenatal care.
The incidence of low birthweight has been related to smoking prevalence in each social group using published data for 1984. The attributable risk of low birthweight has been estimated, based on a relative risk of 2 for mothers who smoke during pregnancy. Assuming 12.5% of cigarette smokers stopped smoking during pregnancy, 18.1% of all low weight births were caused by maternal smoking in 1984. ...
متن کاملNeonatal and postneonatal mortality in very low birthweight infants.
We reviewed 388 very low birthweight infants admitted to this neonatal intensive care unit over a four year period to determine the pattern of neonatal and postneonatal deaths up to age 2 years. Neonatal mortality is no longer an adequate indicator of outcome because deaths arising from perinatal events occur after the first month of life.
